:

How can Physiotherapy help me?

As Chartered Physiotherapists and Veterinary Physiotherapists we are skilled in assessment and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal conditions and also equine performance respectively. Rider assessments can help identify musculoskeletal factors that may be influencing your horse’s way of going and thus performance. Addressing these problems with hands on treatment, including soft tissue treatment or joint mobilisations, stretching and/or strengthening can potentially help improve performance.

What does an assessment involve?

Assessments are typically ‘on land’ to start with.  An assessment of the following is typically included:

  • A subjective history
  • Gait and posture
  • Joint range of motion
  • Soft tissues
  • Strength, including core stability control

Conditions treated with physiotherapy:

Common rider problems that may benefit from physiotherapy assessment include:

  • Musculoskeletal pain
  • Soft tissues injuries
  • Joint problems, including osteoarthritis
  • Returning to riding following surgery
  • A recent change in horse and rider performance
  • A desire to maximise your performance

What treatments are available?

Treatments available include:

  • Massage
  • Manual therapy
  • Advice and education
  • An individual home exercise programme
  • Additional ridden assessment

Where is assessment and treatment completed?

Naomi is a mobile Veterinary Physiotherapist, so she will visit you at your home or yard.
